Midnight Countdown
New Year party quizPlay a team quiz at your New Year party. Answer questions, solve puzzles and earn the most points across five rounds.
How to play
- Choose 2–8 teams and Standard, Challenge or Mixed questions. One non-playing host controls the shared screen. Paper and pens let teams commit answers simultaneously.
- Play five rounds with five questions each: Winter Wonders, Around the World, Holiday Cinema, Picture Party and Final Countdown.
- Every team discusses each question. Write and show answers together, or tell the host privately. Reveal the answer only after all teams have committed. No typing or automatic timer is required.
- The host selects every correct team and confirms the scores. Rounds 1–3 award 100 points per answer, picture tasks award 200, and the final five tasks award 300. Wrong answers lose nothing.
- Example: Mint and Sky both solve a 200-point picture equation. Select both teams and confirm: each receives 200 points. If nobody knows, reveal, choose Nobody got it, confirm and continue without points.
- Accept equivalent wording. Correct the latest award before advancing if necessary. After 25 questions, the highest score wins; equal leaders share victory.
- Shown questions stay in browser history and are excluded from new matches until you explicitly reset it. Continue resumes your saved match when local storage is available.
- The host taps the controls while teams answer together. Each team can have one or more players.
- Use fullscreen for larger questions and diagrams. Team selections update without resetting the page.
- Reveal after all answers are committed, mark the correct teams, confirm points and open the next question.

A little more about the game
Midnight Countdown is a team quiz for a New Year party, played on one shared screen. Winter and festive traditions mix with films, general knowledge and logic puzzles for a varied evening together. Its bank contains 319 selected questions and puzzles across Winter Wonders, Around the World, Holiday Cinema, Picture Party and Final Countdown. Teams explain connections, interpret clues and solve visual or logical tasks. The bank contains no automatically generated numerical variants. Standard and Challenge adjust the selection; Mixed aims to combine both across different topics. A non-playing host reveals answers only after every team has committed, accepts equivalent reasoning and awards points to all correct teams. There are 25 tasks in a match, with higher values in the last two rounds. Highest total wins; tied leaders share victory. Questions and progress are stored locally when available. The countdown is a five-round journey to the final scores, with no real-time midnight deadline. Film references identify quiz subjects and do not imply affiliation.
